Google Chrome OS Preview!

Have you heard about the Google Chrome OS? I read about it and wasn’t excited at all. Now I think it will actually be quite a good thing! Read on!

BBC News – Google previews Chrome open source operating system
“All applications are designed to run in a web browser and all the user’s data is stored on Google’s servers.”

This should be very interesting… Your “netbook” with a solid state drive will run most if not all its applications through a browser instead of from the local drive. You won’t be able to run Photoshop or programs like that, so the computer will be good for a second portable machine but not your main desktop computer.

I would love to have a super fast and lightweight netbook that wasn’t bogged down by the Windows bloat. I would still want to run programs like Tweetdeck etc. as I love to use my netbook for trying to keep up with the social media aspects of my digital camera repair business.

Google Chrome sounds like it is designed around “cloud computing”. Should be interesting to see the security and privacy issues that will certainly arise. Google is well known for tracking your online activity and this seems like an opportunity for Google to tap in to your everyday computing activity as well.
