Nikon D3100: First DSLR With Autofocus Video!

I’m not a fan of taking video with a DSLR, but maybe you are. I guess I figure why not use a camcorder to do a camcorders job, but then again who wants to carry around two large cameras? Also, have you seen how amazing the video is with the Canon 5D Mark II?

Well it looks like Nikon has finally made video a decent option with the D3100 entry level DSLR camera. How? This is the first DSLR anyone has put out that has constant autofocus while shooting video! The D3100 will cost about $700, so be sure you really want to use the video option, otherwise you can get an entry level DSLR for $200 less.

MELVILLE, N.Y. (AUGUST 19, 2010) – The new Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera speaks to the growing ranks of enthusiastic D-SLR users and aspiring photographers by providing an easy-to-use and affordable entrance to the world of Nikon D-SLR’s. The 14.2-megapixel D3100 has powerful features, such as the enhanced Guide Mode that makes it easy to unleash creative potential and capture memories with still images and full HD video. Like having a personal photo tutor at your fingertips, this unique feature provides a simple graphical interface on the camera’s LCD that guides users by suggesting and/or adjusting camera settings to achieve the desired end result images. The D3100 is also the world’s first D-SLR to introduce full time auto focus (AF) in Live View and D-Movie mode to effortlessly achieve the critical focus needed when shooting Full HD 1080p video.

New Nikon S1100pj Projector Camera Actually Works!

New Nikon S1100pj Projector Camera Actually Works!

The first Nikon projector camera was a novelty item for the most part, and an expensive one at that! The claim to fame of the camera was a built-in projector that allowed you to share images with friends by shining them onto a wall. The commercial for the camera sure looked good, but it wasn’t bright enough, it didn’t take great pictures, and it was really expensive!

The new S1100pj camera has an improved, brighter projector and takes good pictures, all for a lower price than the original. But for $350 is a projector really worth it?

The 14.1MP Nikon S1100pj has a 5x optical zoom lens and ISO up to 6400 (but of course at that setting it takes poor pictures). It has 17 scene modes, a 5-way image stabilization system, and the ability to shoot 720p video. But there are plenty cameras out there that will take nicer pictures for the same price or less.

The nice part of the projector is that it’s much brighter, and now you can plug into your computer via USB and project what’s on the screen on the wall up to 47′ in size!

Here’s some of the press release from Nikon regarding the camera specs.

Truly putting creativity at the user’s fingertips, the COOLPIX S1100pj features a 3‐inch 460,000‐dot touch LCD screen with Clear Color Display. A new Paint function allows users to write and draw on projected images in real time, while a wide range of new Retouch functions allow users to add stamps for an entertaining effect or rate their favorite photos for a more convenient search. Other new functions in the S1100pj’s in‐camera Retouch Menu include Soft, Selective Color, Cross Screen, Fisheye Effect, Miniature Effect and Makeup Effect, giving the user creative freedom without the need for a computer.
The 14.1‐megapixel COOLPIX S1100pj includes a 5x Wide‐Angle Optical Zoom‐NIKKOR glass lens (28‐140mm) and a 5‐way VR Image Stabilization System with ISO settings up to 6400 to ensure incredibly sharp, crisp images in low light or while shooting handheld. To further help users capture stunning photos easily, the S1100pj also features 17 scene modes, Subject Tracking, Easy Auto Mode and Nikon’s Smart Portrait System all packed into a colorful, compact design.
The COOLPIX S1100pj will be available in September 2010 for $349.95* MSRP in a choice of colors including black, violet, green and silver.
