My Sony DSC-M1 was doing the same thing. I read your instructions and it inspired me, and I though I need to fix my camera. So I ordered the part from Sony for $56.23 including tax and shipping. I followed your instructions and BAM...I was back in business and my M1 as good as new. No one at the 3 Sony stores I visited could or wanted to help me...clueless and useless. If anyone has this issues just do what Simon says and you will be OK. Thank God that I didn't send my camera to Sony. Who knows what they would have come up with and how much they would have charged me. You Rock Simon.

This replacement unit is very good. It is easy to do the replacement yourself, just remove the seven retaining screws on the camera body, ease off the case, release the two strip cables at the bottom of the black plastic shutter unit, unscrew the old CCD sensor (2 very small x head screws) and screw on the replacement part ... then put it back together again... 10 minutes work.
